CROSS-EXAMINATION TWILIGHT – 21 JUNE 2018

FLPA is hosting an interactive twilight seminar at the Commonwealth Law Courts Building, from 4pm to 7pm on Thursday 21 June 2018, targeted specifically on improving the cross-examination skill sets of family consultants, junior Counsel and solicitor advocates.

We will have some great facilitators on hand to assist during the evening, including their Honours Judge Jarrett and Judge Coates of the Federal Circuit Court, Dr Jacoba Brasch QC, Keith Wilson QC, Greg Shoebridge, Trent Waller, David Hugall, Erylin Rees, Jeff Perry, Tom FitzGerald and Peter Jordan.

The twilight will commence with facilitators speaking as to the most effective ways to prepare for and commence cross-examination (from both the perspective of the legal representative and the family consultant). Participants and observers will be separated out into groups in order for cross-examination role-plays to take place. The facilitators will circulate the rooms and offer individual feedback to participants where possible.

Attendees will receive reading material (a mock report) in the days leading up to the twilight, and should note that this event is tailored specifically to the enhancement of cross-examination skills, and will not be covering advocacy skills more generally.

Video recordings will not be taken on the night, and as such there will be no webinar facilities for this event, and no recordings will be circulated or made available to members after the event.

We have been able to secure five Court rooms for the interactive twilight, and as such there will need to be a strict cap on the number of participants and observers. There has already been significant levels of interest expressed by members in both participating in the event, and attending as observers. Please note that anyone who has already expressed their interest in participating or observing will still need to register, so as not to miss out!

Facilitators and those registered to attend the professional development event will be invited to gather informally at the conclusion of the evening at the Florist Kitchen & Bar (in the alleyway underneath Santos Place) for networking drinks. A small bar tab will be arranged, with participants also welcome to purchase food and other beverages.
