TWILIGHT SEMINAR/WEBINAR - Untangling technical tax law

Taxation law is complex and dynamic and can be difficult for family lawyers to stay in touch with. They impact on all business and personal financial decisions, but particularly on family law settlements.

In this twilight seminar, tax lawyer Frances Becker and Melinda Peters will guide you through the complex web of taxation revenue and commercial law and its relevance to family law matters.

Don’t miss this detailed training session as it will provide you with knowledge of what to be aware of when negotiating family law settlements for client by exploring the taxation and duty risks and benefits of alternative strategies available.

Using practical case studies, Frances and Melinda will show you:

  • the impact of division 7A on marriage breakdowns;
  • dealing with commercial loan agreements between related parties;
  • dealing with trust interests of spouses in discretionary trusts;
  • CGT rollovers available upon divorce including trust owned assets; and
  • transfer and other duty concessions available for family law settlements.

Frances Becker – Frances is a senior associate at McCullough Robertson Lawyers and acts for privately owned businesses, families, and high net worth individuals advising on estate planning and asset protection, business succession planning and general tax and commercial transactions.

Melinda Peters – Melinda is a specialist tax and duty lawyer with over 10 years’ experience.  She currently acts for a broad range of clients from multinational corporations, ASX-listed companies and widely held investment funds to a number of Australian start-ups and high net worth individuals.
