The 2021 Judge Middleton Series - Part Three

The Family Law Practitioners Association is pleased to present part three of our extended Twilight Series facilitated by Judge Middleton of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia and barrister, Jeff Bunning.

Preparing for final hearing

During part three of the series, Judge Middleton and Jeff Bunning will provide guidance to practitioners about how best to prepare for final hearing including:

1.    What are you asking the court to do?

a. What are the issues in dispute and what findings are you seeking the Court make?
b. What do you have in support of your client’s position?
c. Clarifying instructions and expectations with your client.

2.    Gathering evidence and liaising with experts

a. Do you require updated expert reports?
b. Disclosure.
c. Putting your client’s best evidence forward. What are the orders sought and what evidence does your client have in support of those orders sought?
d. Developing a trial plan.

3.    Preparing your client for final hearing.

When: 5.00pm for a 5.30pm start until 7.30pm, Thursday 4 November 2021

CPD: Rule 48(2) of the Queensland Law Society Administration Rule 2005 and the Bar Association of Queensland CPD Policy permit, on a self-assessment basis, the treatment of attendance at a conference as a CPD activity at the rate of 1 CPD point per 1 hour of attendance (excluding refreshment breaks).
